The Lumbricidae are a family of earthworms which includes most of the earthworm species well-known to Europeans. About 33 lumbricid species have become naturalized around the world.
New Zealand has at least 171 species of native earthworms and 23 non-native species.

Photos below are of an 18 cm unnamed species found in New Plymouth.
