Agapetes serpens is a evergreen, shrub native to the cool Himalayas where is usual grows as an epiphyte. At the base of the plant a caudex-like base forms which is up to 150 mm across. From this base emerges long, arching stems (>1.5 m long) that develop pendulous benches of red tubular flowers (25 mm long) that bloom over a long period.
After flowering round, lavender fruit form and hang in place of the flowers.
