Beetle (Chafer) Scarab (Odontria genus)
Common name: Scarab beetles
There are about 140 species of chafer beetles in New Zealand.These beetles have larvae that feed in the soil on roots and as adults, they feed on the foliage of many species.
The larvae of scarab beetles are characteristically C-shaped, whitish grubs with 3 pairs of slender legs.
Odontria species of chafers are fuzzy/velvety whereas Costelytra species are smooth and shiny.
