Berberidopsis coralline is a climbing, evergreen climber from the moist woodlands of Chile. Berberidopsis corallina is seriously threatened in Chile where commercial forestry has all but decimated its native habitat.
It has woody stems up to 15 m long. The alternate, heart-shaped leaves are >12 cm long and have small marginal spines, a coriaceous texture and a short petiole. There are prominent veins on the underside. The leaves upper surface is dark green and they are glaucous beneath.
The crimson bell-shaped flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are in pendant clusters, each individual flower (1 cm in diameter) which have 1 to 2 bracts are a 4 cm long.
Berberidopsis coralline pendulum fruits are spherical berries. They are dark red to reddish dark purple when they reach full maturity.
