Hundreds of species of mushrooms compose the fungus genus Clitocybe. They are characterized by white, off-white, buff, cream, pink, or light-yellow spores, gills running down the stem, and pale white to brown or lilac colouration. They are primarily saprotrophic, decomposing forest ground litter. Clitocybe means sloping head.

This creamy white mushroom with a funnel-shaped cap with white decurrent paced gills was growing in a damp West Coast bush in March. It has a white spore print.
