Hymenophyllum flabellatum is filmy fern indigenous to New Zealand and its islands, Australia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Samoa and Tahiti. It grows in coastal to montane forests. Often epiphytic, especially on tree fern trunks, but also on overhanging banks, damp rocks and overhanging banks.
