Lobelia pedunculata is an evergreen small leafed low growing soft-wooded perennial, mat-forming herb. It is native to Australia - New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria. It likes the soil to be constantly moist to usually boggy and grows in partial shade in lawns and flower beds.
It spreads by underground stolons. In a garden setting some gardeners have found its ability to spread to be a nuisance.
It has small, toothed oblong to roundish leaves 2-13mm x 1.5-10mm, sometimes reddish-purple.
Single, axillary, blue or white starry 5 petaled flowers are held erect on stalks 3-100mm long. The floral tube is split to its base. The flowers can be male, female and bisexual. Flowering occurs during most of the year peaking November to February. It grows in moist soils in partial shade in lawns and flower beds.
