Senecio glaucophyllus subsp. basinudus is New Zealand native endemic, perennial herb only found in the South Island from the Banks Peninsula to the Otago Peninsula. It grows usually in exposed rocky areas from coastal inland to 200 m.a.s.l. It is occasionally found in sand dunes. Some populations dying back in winter.
